Management Team

John Packard - President and Founder
John believed there had to be a better way to keep his lawn green without chemical run off going into the ocean and beach near his home. He also wanted to provide a safer grass area for his grand children to play. His eureka was Cockadoodle DOO!

Now, few people would see opportunity and smell success looking at a pile of chicken manure, but that was all the inspiration John needed to found Pure Barnyard. As the head rooster in this operation, John's role includes overseeing Pure Barnyard's investment strategy and liaison and managing the team to success.

Before realizing his true calling was in organic fertilizer, John served as President of Gemini Valve for 30 years. In 1969, when he began, Gemini was a start-up company manufacturing valves and controls for the chemical, petro-chemical, food processing and paper industries. By the time he left, Gemini had over 200 employees in sales offices around the world.

John is an active investor in start-up businesses in the technology, storage and renewable resources markets including Catamount/Eagle LLC, and Cape Source LLC. He serves on the board of the Bank of New Hampshire, as well as other community-related boards. Previously, he has served as a the board member for Worcester Academy, The University of Vermont, BankEast; BankNorth Group, Exeter Hospital, Lamprey Health Care, International Management Council, Action Equipment,. John holds an economics degree from the University of Vermont.

Richard Sheldon - Vice President of Sales
Like John Packard, Dick Sheldon was another chicken manure visionary, and one of Pure Barnyard's original founders. He was also the company's very first customer. Dick raised four children on a 38-acre farm with a creek and trout pond in rural Exeter, NH, and his daughters refused to allow anything but organic products on the lawn, flower beds, or vegetable garden. As a consumer, Dick can tell you, from personal experience, the difference between horse and cow manure, "hot" uncured chicken manure, and dehydrated chicken fertilizer. (He might be biased, but Dick says Cockadoodle DOO is best.)

Dick is the main reason Cockadoodle DOO is so well known to the owners of professional independent garden centers from Maine to North Carolina, and West to Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. For nearly a decade Dick has been pounding the pavement telling everyone who wanted to listen (plus many more who didn't) about the merits of Cockadoodle DOO Super-Premium Organic Fertilizer versus chemicals. Now, with the growing interest Dick's message is finally starting to hit home.

A 35-year veteran of the consumer products and packaging industry, Dick adds extensive sales experience to Pure Barnyard, having been Director of Consumer Sales & Marketing for Adhesive Technologies, Inc., National Sales Manager for Epicure Products, Inc., and National Sales Trainer, District/Regional & Divisional Manager, Consumer Electronics.
